This is so awful! On Saturday night Eric and I went to the Birthday party of my boss, Jane. She was celebrating 80 years. It was lots of fun to spend some time with all her friends and family. There were lots of familiar faces there. Just after giving a wonderful speech about how happy she is and lucky she is for living in such a great town and having so many friends and family members Jane cut her and served the cake.
Not even 10 minutes later Jane was informed that her front porch was on fire. Just across a little parking lot from where we were celebrating. Everyone walked over to see what was going on.
The fire was little at first. They had it out pretty quickly. I think we all underestimated it though. The fire had already gotten to the attic. Soon smoke was coming from the top and the wind picked up.
We are all happy that no one was hurt. There were some really upset family members and friends too. To watch this happening and not be able to help is so hard.

Everyone was worried about Jane and her home. She stayed out of direct sight of her home. She knew she would lose it if she saw what was happening.

This summer has been so dry and that didn't help matters. The firefighters were running out of water in the tanker and had to get it from other water trucks. The hoses were daisy chained to pump from one to the other.

With that in combination with the wind and how dry it is, it got bad fairly quickly. We watched in amazement and sorrow as we all knew just how much she would lose.
We stayed long into the night. I'm glad I was there to hug my boss and offer my support. There are so many great people in our town. I'm sure she knows she is loved.

It got pretty late and we had to go home to our kids. I just wanted to hold them. I didn't want to go to sleep. I just wanted to make sure they were safe all night long.

It really shows us just how much we take for granted. One minute it is here and then it could all be gone.

The next day when I woke up Jane was the first thought in my mind. All morning I wanted to go see how she was doing. I kept telling myself she is probably busy with so much to do but finaly around 10:00 we decided to drive over and see.

She was talking with firefighters and some family members were there too. I to let her know we were there if she needs us and gave her a hug.

Jane has lived in this house since 1956. So many years. So many memories. She is a lucky woman. She can walk to the ice house for a drink, she has a little bakery, salon, and of coarse our post office. We have a couple nice little restaurants, and an antique shop.
