About a month before I had the twins Britton and Ethan's art teacher came to me one morning to tell me that she was expecting twin girls. I was so surprised, I didn't even know she was pregnant.
Well her story is a little different than mine. She was acting as a surrogate for a family who wanted to have kids of their own but couldn't. I had instant admiration for her, it takes an amazing act of kindness to carry a baby for nine months and be able to hand her over so willingly. I know I could not do it with one, not to mention two of them.
Last week she was on my mind constantly. She had been put on bed rest a while back and I couldn't stop thinking about her. One night I couldn't sleep so I decided to send her an e-mail. A few days later I got a reply, she had had the girls the Saturday before and all were doing fine. She sent me a few pictures (sorry I cannot post them for respect of privacy) and when I looked at them I just started bawling.
Karen, you are just such an amazing person. I'm sure you have made their new family so happy. I know and you know how great it is to be a mom, and I can vouch for the fact that having twins means that you do everything twice and everything is doubled. Including the love.
